Whiteman Tennis Center

Whiteman Tennis Center

The Whiteman Tennis Center serves as the home to Arizona State's nationally-ranked men's and women's tennis teams. The eight-court complex, which is widely considered to be one of the nation's finest tennis facilities, was built in 1976 at a cost of approximately $300,000.

With a capacity of 800, Whiteman served as host to the Women's National Championships in 1977 and 1981, as well as the 1976 Western Athletic Conference Championship. In addition, Whiteman is annually the site of the (women's) Apani Fall Classic and the (men's) Penn National Collegiate Invitational, one of the country's premier team tournaments, as well as numerous junior tournaments.

A $115,000 renovation of the Whiteman Tennis Center took place in 1986, as the original drainage was replaced and all eight courts were resurfaced. A two-inch asphalt overlay and a "plexi-wave" coating were added to the courts' surface.

The stadium, which is lighted, was paid for by lcoal businessman Jack Whiteman, while the Sun Devil Club also donated funds for the construction of the facility.
