Sun Angel Stadium/Joe Selleh Track
Arizona State University's men's and women's track and field teams compete at Sun Angel Stadium/Joe Selleh Track, which opened in 1976. The stadium was completed in 1975 at an estimated cost of $3 million. The facility, which served as host to the 1991 Pacific-10 Conference Track and Field Championships, also serves as the site for the annual Sun Angel Track Classic. In 1992, for the first time in its 12-year history, the Sun Angel Track Classic was shown to a national television audience by the Turner Broadcasting System (TBS). Sun Angel Stadium hosted the 1979 Pac-10 and 1986 Pacific West Conference Championships as well as the 1976 Western Athletic Conference Championship. In addition, the 1983 Big Sky Conference Championship and the 1978 Intermountain Conference meet were held at Sun Angel Stadium. The stadium underwent a $200,000 renovation in 1983. The track and tartan field event runways were resurfaced, the 440-yard oval track was converted into a 10-lane, 400 meter track and the pole vault runways at the north end of the stadium were reconstructed to face east and west. The entire construction process was funded by the Sun Angel Foundation. The west side seating is constructed of pre-stressed concrete, 45 rows in height, with all seating equidistant to the finish line. The seating capacity exceeds 5,000 , and the east side of the track has the space for an additional 4,000 spectators with movable bleachers. Other amenities at Sun Angel Stadium include an Acutrack timing system and press accomodations on the upper level of the grandstand.
