Sun Devil Water Polo Gains Valuable Experience In Fall Scrimmages

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University water polo team traveled to Irvine, Calif. on Saturday for scrimmages against CS Northridge, UCLA and UC San Diego. The Sun Devils met up with CS Northridge in the first game, and senior Addison McGrath led the offensive attack with three goals. Sophomores Lauren Hayes and Nikki Unbehaun added two goals each, while junior Jennifer Campo had a team-leading three assists. Sophomore Kaitlyn Morris had 11 saves in the cage. In the second game of the day, ASU faced the four-time defending national champion UCLA Bruins. McGrath scored four goals to again lead the offense, while Unbehaun and juniors Kelly Phelps and Kari Walsh had one goal each. Morris again had 11 saves, and the Devils went 2-for-2 on their 5-meter penalty attempts. Four different Sun Devils had multiple goals in the team's match-up with UC San Diego. Hayes led the way with four goals, Unbehaun scored three and McGrath and Phelps had two each. Campo and McGrath had two assists each, while Hayes had five steals. Morris had seven saves, while freshman Ashley Mercereau stopped two shots in her first action. Overall, McGrath led the team with nine goals in the three games, while Hayes and Unbehaun had six each. Campo had five assists, Hayes led the Sun Devils with nine steals and Morris collected 29 saves on the day.
