ASU Water Polo Goalie Wallace Named to All-MPSF Freshman Team
May 4, 2005
TEMPE, Ariz. - Caylinn Wallace, a member of the No. 19 Arizona State University water polo team, was named to the 2005 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Freshman Team, the conference announced May 3. Wallace, the starting goalie for the Sun Devils in 2005, helped the team an 11-21 record in her first collegiate season while anchoring the team to a 10th-place finish in the conference tournament. Wallace (Fr., Laguna Hills, Calif.), who set the school record for saves in a game by recording 22 in an 8-7 upset of No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, tallied 243 saves on the year, the second-most in a single season, while 125 of those saves game in 12 conference games. On the year, her 9.19 saves per contest average ranks first among the shot stoppers in the MPSF while her 6.27 goals against average placed her fourth in the league. Despite the 11-21 record on the year, Wallace helped the Sun Devils record several victories over higher ranked foes, including a pair of Top 10 foes. ASU's biggest upset was the 8-7 overtime defeat of No. 8 UCSB one week prior to the Sun Devils upset of No. 9 San Jose State, 7-1. ASU's other victories came against UC Irvine, once when the Anteaters were ranked 13th and, more recently, when they were No. 12 during the MPSF Championships. The final upset was a 6-3 defeat of No. 14 Cal State Northridge in the opening month of the season. Historically, Wallace joins Katie Davis as the only Sun Devils honored by the conference in the two years ASU has been in the MPSF after Davis earned honorable mention honors last year.
