Women's Volleyball swept by USC

LOS ANGELES - The No. 11 USC women's volleyball team defeated Arizona State, 16-14, 15-9, 15-5, in a Pacific-10 Conference match on Sunday (Nov. 8) in front of 677 at the North Gym.

USC improves to 17-4 overall, 12-2 in the Pac-10. Arizona State drops to 7-8, 10-12. USC is on a six-match winning streak.

Senior outside hitter Jennifer Kessy had 18 kills and six digs, while senior middle blocker Jasmina Marinkovic contributed 14 kills and four blocks. Marinkovic is now USC's all-time career total block leader with 526 blocks.

The Sun Devils were led by freshman outside hitter Jami Coughlin's 10 kills and 12 digs.

Arizona State came out strong in Game 1, outblocking USC six to one and getting off to a 7-1 lead. The Women of Troy battled back, ending the game with a service ace by sophomore outside hitter Janae Henry.

In Game 2, USC was up 12-4 before the Sun Devils battled back to 13-9. USC then scored to straight to hold on for the win. Arizona State got off to another quick lead at 4-0 in Game 3 before the Women of Troy ran off 10 straight points to take a 10-4 lead. USC allowed only one more point from the Sun Devils before finishing out the game with a .500 hitting percentage.

USC will travel to the Washington schools next weekend, facing the Huskies on Friday (Nov. 13) at 7 p.m. and Washington State on Sunday (Nov. 15) at 1 p.m.
