Oct. 4, 2008
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Despite a tough start to the day, Sun Devil sophomore Kelcy McKenna rallied back Saturday afternoon to top Northwestern's Maria Mosolova in the semifinal round of the ITA All-American Championships with a final score of 0-6, 7-5, 7-6. McKenna holds an eight-match win streak going into tomorrow's match for the All-American title. Mosolova came out firing as she knocked McKenna back on her heels with a dominant 6-0 win in the first set, but McKenna came out of the set break ready to play and made a match of it as she chipped away at the Wildcat before emerging with a 7-5 win to tie the match up. Set three gave the fans their money's worth as McKenna and Mosolova battled it out in a nailbiter, with McKenna pulling ahead for the edge and the win to advance 7-6. Kelcy returns to action tomorrow morning as she sets to face-off with Auburn's Fani Chifchieva for the All-American title in Los Angeles at the Riviera Tennis Club.
