Nov. 10, 2005
TEMPE, Ariz. - Three members of the Arizona State University soccer team were named to the 2005 All-Pac-10 Conference team it was announced Thursday by Commissioner Tom Hansen. Elizabeth Bogus, Brittany Cooper and Manya Makoski each earned league honors for a Sun Devil team that finished the season with a 9-8-3 overall record and a fifth-place tie in the Pac-10 with a 4-4-1 mark. Bogus (Sr., Sandy, Utah) and Cooper (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) each earned first-team selections while Makoski (Sr., Trumbull, Conn.) was placed on the second team in a vote by the coaches of the 10 Pac-10 schools. The selections for Bogus and Makoski are the fourth in their respective careers while Cooper earned the third conference honor of her career. Bogus was selected to the first team for the second time in her career after earning the same accolade in 2002, her freshman season. She followed that with an honorable mention selection in 2003 and second team honors one year ago. This season, Bogus led the Sun Devils in scoring with 11 goals and six assists for 28 points and ranked third in the conference in both points and goals scored at the end of the regular season. Her goal total is the fifth-most in season at ASU, as is her point total. For her career, her 31 goals tie her for the second most in program history while her 80 points are second overall. Cooper, who joins the first team following two years in a row of second-team honors, finished the year with 20 points on eight goals scored and four assists. Her career total of 74 points and 30 goals scored both rank as the third best in ASU history while her 16 total assists are the seventh-most in Sun Devil annals. Makoski earned her third second-team selection following a 22-point campaign in which she scored eight goals and added six assists. A four-time all-conference selection, Makoski finished her career with the Sun Devils as the fifth-highest point scorer as she collected 24 goals and 70 points. Her 22 assists also rank as the second best total on the ASU ledger. Bogus and Makoski join Stacey Tullock (1998-2001) as the only Sun Devils to earn All-Pac-10 honors all four years of competing for the team while Cooper is the second player, joining Amy LePeilbet (2001-2003), to garner the conference honor three times in a career. Overall, 13 different student-athletes have collected 29 total all-conference honors, including 11 first-team selections.
