ASU Women's Soccer Hosts Arizona in Annual Gold Game on Friday

Come out and support the Sun Devil women's soccer team this Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Arizona in its annual Gold Game. All fans who wear gold on Friday will be admitted for $3. Friday's contest will be the Pac-10 opener for both teams. The Sun Devils are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2). Quick Notes · ASU’s current seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) equals its longest such streak since the 2002 season. ASU’s longest unbeaten streak in school history is 12 (12-0-0) which included the final three games of the 1999 season and the first nine games of the 2000 season. · During its seven-game unbeaten streak the Sun Devils have outscored their opponents 10-2, including an 8-1 advantage in the second half. Sophomore Karin Volpe’s eight points (three goals, two assists) have paced the Sun Devils during their unbeaten streak while junior goalkeeper Briana Silvestri has a GAA of 0.27 while saving 19 shots and recording five shutouts during that span. · Silvestri’s overall GAA of 0.36 is currently No. 6 in the nation. Her five shutouts this season are currently tied for No. 5 in ASU’s single-season annals while her 11 career shutouts are fourth on ASU’s all-time list. · Volpe’s 11 career goals are currently 10th on ASU’s all-time list. With her next goal Volpe will tie Jaclyn Clark (1997-00) for ninth on the list. In ASU’s most recent outing, Volpe recorded the fifth game winning goal of her career in ASU’s 1-0 win over Long Beach State. Volpe’s five game winning goals are currently tied for seventh on ASU’s all-time list.
· Two of sophomore Alexandra Elston's three goals this season have come in ASU’s last three contests, including the game winning goal in ASU’s 1-0 win over UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 26. · The Sun Devils have won the last four meetings against the Wildcats since a 1-1 tie in 2003. Last season the Sun Devils were victorious 2-1 in Tucson. Carly Kallas and Karin Volpe were responsible for ASU’s goals in the win. · Currently 7-4, the Wildcats have already surpassed their win total from last season when they went 6-13-1. Freshman forward Renae Cuellar has led Arizona on the offensive end with five goals and 11 points while junior goalkeeper Chelsea McIntyre has helped to contain the opposition with five shutouts this season. · Including Friday’s game against Arizona, the aggregate record of ASU’s next five opponents is 43-8-3 and includes No. 2 Stanford (10-0-1), No. 3 UCLA (9-0-2) and No. 5 and defending national champion USC (10-1-0).
