Incoming Women's Golfer Wins International European Ladies Championship

Sept. 4, 2008

Incoming freshman Carlota Ciganda captured her second International European Ladies Championship win earlier this week. The phenom from Pamplona, Spain also won the tournament in 2004 at 14 years old.

After shooting a 70-73-71-75 to finish 3-under 289, Ciganda beat out Maria Hernandez in a 3-hole playoff to reclaim her title. Ciganda birdied the first extra holes to take the lead and win the tournament.

Ciganda and fellow incoming freshman Giulia Molinaro will come to Tempe in January. In October, Ciganda will join fellow Sun Devil and Spaniard Azahara Munoz at the World Amateur in Adelaide, Australia. Fellow Sun Devil teammates Molinaro (Italy), Anna Nordqvist (Sweden) and Juliana Murcia (Columbia) will also compete for their native countries in the World Amateur which runs from October 8-19.

The No. 2 Sun Devils head to Owing Mills, Md., this weekend for the NCAA Fall Preview. The tournament will begin Sunday Sept. 7 and conclude Monday Sept. 8.
