Women's Golf Earn Second Seed at West Regional

April 28, 2008

Sacramento, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Arizona State University women's golf team earned a bid to the 2008 NCAA West Regional hosted by Sacramento State University. ASU, the second seed in the west region, will compete May 8-10 at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif.

The regional tournaments are conducted as the preliminary round for the NCAA championship competition held in Albuquerque, N.M. From each regional, eight teams and two individuals will advance to the championship.

Duke (East), UCLA (Central) and Southern California (West) all earned the top seed in their respective regions.

The field for the West Regional features: Southern California, Arizona State, Arkansas, Arizona, Oklahoma State, California, Michigan State, Stanford, BYU, Tulsa, North Carolina, Ohio State, San Jose State, Oklahoma, Oregon, UNLV, UC Davis, UC Irvine, Fresno State, Oral Roberts and Portland State.

This season Arizona State has finished in the top-five in all nine tournaments in which the Sun Devils competed. In October, ASU won the 2007 Stanford Intercollegiate overcoming a 12-stroke deficit to come from behind to beat then No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 Duke.
