Jesper Kennegard Four Shots Back Entering Final Round Of All-America Classic

Nov. 24, 2008

EL PASO, Texas (November 24, 2008) -- One day after perfect weather conditions, the West Texas wind blew in and it showed in the scoring at the 34th Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic held at 6,842-yard, par-71 El Paso Country Club. ASU's Jesper Kennegard is tied for sixth at even 142 (71-71), just four shots behind leader Corey Nagy of Charlotte.

Only five golfers were able to break par, led by Nagy, who finished the first 36 holes at four-under par. Nagy, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., carded rounds of 67-71 to finish with a 138 36-hole total. He is on pace to become the first player to with All-American and the Titleist Long Drive Contest, since Arizona's Chris Nallen did it in 2003.

Clemson's Kyle Stanley eagled the par-five ninth hole to close out the day and pull into second at three-under par. Sonoma State's Jarin Todd and Texas' Charlie Holland are tied for third at three-under par heading into the last round.

Oklahoma State's Trent Leon is the only other player under par, after he finished the second round with a 68 to get to one-under. Leon was in contention for the tournament title last year, before finishing third. This marks the first time since 2002 that five or less golfers have failed to reach sub-par totals after two rounds.

The course did see eight eagles on the day and the fourth hole-in-one in tournament history, as Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge aced the par-three, 175-yard No. 3.

The third and final round is set to start at 8 a.m. at El Paso Country Club.

Each university that has a player participating in the tournament will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past 33 years, the Sun Bowl Association has donated over $625,000 to collegiate golf through this scholarship program.
