Windy Conditions Have ASU Tied For 18th After First Day Of NCAA Golf

The men's golf team fought off some windy conditions and finished at 12-over 292 after the first round of the 107th NCAA men's golf championships. Defending champion Alejandro Canizares is tied for 20th with an even 70. Arizona State is one of five teams tied for 18th, and that list includes Oklahoma State, Pac-10 champion Arizona and Georgia State. California leads after the first day with a 1-under 279. No Pac-10 team has won the NCAA men's golf title since Arizona State took home the honor in 1996. The event is being held in Hot Springs, Va. Individually, Canizares' 70 puts him in a tie for 20th and five shots off the lead. Junior Jesse Mueller shot a 1-over 71 and is tied for 30th while Chez Reavie (5-over 75 and tied for 108th), Niklas Lemke (6-over 76 and tied for 122nd) and Mike Derminio (8-over 78 and tied for 141st) finished the ASU scoring.
