JAMES BYRNE'S FAVORITES:
OFF THE TEE: Very good student who earned second-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors in 2008-2009 as he is majoring in economics...has competed in eight events in each of his first two seasons...finished fifth at the 2009 John Hayt Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 22-24) in Ponte Vedra, Fla., with a 2-over 218, which included a season-low 68 in the first round. SUMMER OF 2008: Had a solid summer of 2008 as he smashed the Newburgh-on-Ythan course record with an 11-under 61 in the second round on his way to an eight-stroke win in the North-east District Open, the Scottish Golf Union's 72-hole Order of Merit Tournament, in mid-August. He shot 72-61-75-69 for the 11-under 277. Also posted his first competitive hole-in-one at the Scottish Challenge, a professional event, in late June at the 190-yard 13th hole as he struck a seven iron en route to a 5-under par 66. FRESHMAN YEAR (2007-08): Solid freshman season (in 2007-2008) was highlighted by a huge performance at the Pac-10 Championship, as he fired a season-best 67 in the third round to keep ASU in the hunt for the title that it eventually captured. Byrne shot a 1-under 283 (71-72-67-73) and tied for third. He earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors as he played in eight events. QUOTING RANDY LEIN: "I first saw James play at the 2006 European Boys Championship. I saw something special in him then and liked everything I saw. In the summer of 2007 he was the youngest player to play on the Scottish National Team. He was ranked in the World's top 30 at one point and has proved to be one of the very best players to come over to this country from the UK." PREP AND JUNIOR CAREER: Attended the Banchory Academy in Banchory, Scotland...was the 2007 Scottish Boys Champion and was selected to the Scotland Mens European team...in 2006 won the Scotland Order of Merit...was the 2006 Newsland Trophy Champion as he shot nine under 271 and won by four strokes...was a member of the winning Scotland Boys team at Home Internationals in 2006...won the North East Scotland Boys Champtionship (shot nine-under par)...shot a career low round of 64 at the North Scotland Boys Championships. ETC.: Born Jan. 2, 1989 in Lowestoft, England...parents are Paul and Siew-Meok of Banchory Scotland...cousin Brendan Byrne swam for the California Golden Bears from 1993-97...enjoys Mexican food, supporting the Arsenal Football club and working out...full name is James S.
