In 1981, the Aloha Bowl received sanctioning from the NCAA for a post-season bowl game to be played on Christmas Day. The next year, 1982, the Aloha Bowl Christmas Classic became a reality when Washington defeated Maryland 21-20 in a last-minute thriller.
On December 25, 1998 football history was made.On Christmas Day in Hawai'i, the seventeenth annual Jeep Aloha Bowl was joined by the inaugural Jeep O'ahu Bowl while the rest of America and the nation witnessed the very first football doubleheader.
