James Harden Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week
Nov. 24, 2008
Sun Devil sophomore James Harden has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for November 17 - 23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Harden led ASU to a 59-52 road victory over San Diego State on Nov. 18, marking just the fourth road-opening win in the past 17 seasons for the Sun Devils. He registered a career-high 33 points against Pepperdine on Nov. 23, the most points by a Sun Devil since Ike Diogu had 35 against California in 2005 (past 104 games). In the two games, the Los Angeles, Calif., native averaged 25.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Against the Aztecs, Harden scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds and added three assists and two steals for ASU. On Sunday, the sophomore totaled 12 rebounds, one shy of his career-high, and was subbed out of the game with 2:38 left to play with 33 points, equaling Pepperdine's total offensive output at that point in the game. Harden has led ASU in scoring in all three games this season and he currently leads the Pac-10 with 25.0 points per game and ranks third in steals with 2.3 steals per contest. This is the second weekly honor for Harden and the 27th overall for Arizona State. Seventeen ASU players have been named Pac-10 Player of the Week on 27 occasions.
