Sophomores Derek Glasser and Jerren Shipp earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention status, announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
Glasser was fourth on the team in minutes per game (26.8) and led the team in assists (134) for the second straight year. He has played in all 64 games in his two-year career (starting in 40) and is averaging 6.2 points and 3.6 assists. His 231 career assists in two years already is more than halfway to the school career record of 454 held by Bobby Thompson (1983-87). He has a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.96-to-1 (231 assists and 118 turnovers) and is shooting 81.6 percent (93-of-114) from the free throw line, including 84.1 percent this year (58-of-69).
Shipp also has played in all 64 games in his two-year career, averaging 28 minutes per game, 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds. He shot 81.7 percent from the free throw line this year (49-of-60) and has started 38 games in his career.
Christian Polk, who has asked for his release to transfer, also earned the honor. Polk played in 52 games in two seasons and averaged 8.4 points per game.
