SUN DEVIL DATA: A late signee in the spring of 2006 who was the first high school signee in the Herb Sendek era at Arizona State and ended up playing 30 minutes per game, the third-highest average by a freshmen in ASU history behind only Sun Devil legends Byron Scott (32.3 minutes per game in 1979-80) and Ike Diogu (32.2 minutes per game in 2002-03). Moves and screens well without the ball. Came to ASU from one of the nation's best high school programs, southern California's Fairfax High School. He was team captain in senior year (2005-2006) under Harvey Kitani. Jerren is the younger brother of former Cal standout Joe Shipp and current UCLA Bruin Josh Shipp. Joe was Cal's MVP in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 and earned All-Pac-10 honors in 2002-2003 after leading the league in scoring with a 20.4 points per game mark in 31 games. Led team in steals in freshman year with 30 and earned Best Cutter/ Screener Award from coaches at team's annual banquet.

CAN'T GET MUCH BETTER OF A START: No Sun Devil freshmen scored more points than Jerren Shipp in the first game of an ASU career, as Shipp scored 23 against Northern Arizona on Nov. 13, 2006. Classmate Christian Polk notched 22 in that game as well, as only Jamaul Faulkner (18 vs. Kansas on Nov. 23, 199), Eric Holloway (18 vs. U.S. International on Nov. 29, 1983) and Eddie House (17 vs. Jacksonville on Nov. 22, 1996) posted at least 17 points in a debut. Shipp hit 8-of-11 (.727) from the field in the game.

SHIPP VS. SHIPP: Jerren was 6-of-14 (.429) from the field in the two games against older brother and UCLA Bruin Josh. Jerren posted eight points at Pauley Pavilion on Jan. 18 against the third-ranked Bruins and had 10 points on Feb. 15 when UCLA entered the game fifth in the nation.

FRESHMAN SEASON (2006-07): Team's third-leading scorer at 7.6 points per game and was second in minutes per game at 30.0...led team with 30 steals...team's leading scorer in first game of the year (23 vs. Northern Arizona) and in final two games (11 at California and 13 vs. Washington in Pac-10 Tournament)...averaged 35.4 minutes in the final seven games and shot .468 from the field and was 10-of-22 (.455) from the three-point stripe in that time and averaged 8.4 points...hit 36 three-pointers, eighth-most by a freshmen in ASU history...averaged 28.9 minutes in Pac-10 games, tenth-most by a freshmen in ASU history...22 starts is tied for tenth by a freshmen in ASU history...posted double digits in scoring in 10 games, including first four games...played at least 30 minutes in 19 games.

COACH SENDEK SAYS: "Jerren played for a legendary coach in Harvey Kitani and is a fine gentleman with excellent potential. His versatility, skill package and winning ways distinguish him as a young player well-suited for our style of play."

FAIRFAX HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Harvey Kitani in the Western League...a four-year letterman...led Fairfax to a 24-3 overall record in 2005-2006 and a 10-0 mark in league play...averaged 18.5 points per game and was named a first-team CalHiSports.com Division I selection and also earned first-team Los Angeles All-City honors as Fairfax posted a 15-game winning streak...in the postseason, he led top-seeded Fairfax to the Championship Division semifinals and had 26 points in a loss to Westchester...earned MVP honors of the 21st annual Iolani Classic in Honolulu in December as Fairfax beat top-ranked Rockville Montrose Christian (Md.) in the championship game, led by his 17 points and six rebounds...also played in the 2006 Nike Extravganza XI at the Anaheim Convention Center and had 21 points as Fairfax topped Norcross (Ga.) 72-56...earned sophomore all-state status in 2004
