On pace to be one of those players who seems to play college basketball forever, as he has logged 27.3 minutes per game in his first two years with 40 starts. Has 231 career assists in just two seasons, more than halfway to the ASU career record of 454 set by Bobby Thompson from 1983-87. Battled knee injury all of last year and had surgery in May of 2008 to clean up the leg. Two-time California state prep champion (2003 and 2006) joined the Sun Devil program in July of 2006 after Kevin Kruger suddently transferred and ended up averaging 32.2 minutes per game in Pac-10 play in his freshman year, now fifth-most by a freshman in ASU's 30-year history behind only Pac-10 Freshmen of the Year Ike Diogu (33.3 in 2002-03) and Byron Scott (34.2 in 2006-07) and the duo of James Harden (35.9) and Ty Aboott (34.8) last year. Played for current assistant coach Scott Pera at Artesia High School and was a three-year starter and team captain at point guard and won 2006 state title with James Harden. Understands the game and was part of one of the country's top programs in his high school career. Became the second player in Artesia's decorated history with more than 1,000 points (1,168) and 500 assists (566), the first was Jason Kapono, who is one of just four players to earn Pac-10 All-Conference honors four times. Made 58-of-69 (.841) free throws in 2007-08 and is 93-of-114 (.816) in his 64-game career. He had a career-high nine assists against Idaho on Dec. 22, 2007, the most by a Sun Devil since Antwi Atuahene had 10 vs. Oregon on Feb. 11, 2006 (most in past 70 games). Glasser had 69 assists and 32 turnovers in Pac-10 play last year, a 2.16 ratio that was second in the league.

QUICKIES FROM SOPHOMORE SEASON (2007-08): Led team in assists for second straight year with 134 (3.94 per game)...ASU was 5-1 when he scored in double digits, including wins over USC (11 points in 29 minutes), at Washington (12 points and seven assists) and vs. Oregon (10 points, seven boards and seven assists in 34 minutes)...best game of season, and maybe career, was nine-point and eight-assist effort in 32 minutes at Arizona on Feb. 10, as ASU came back from healthy first-half deficit to post first win in Tucson since 1995...named a first-team All-American by the Jewish Sports Review along with Jon Scheyer (Duke), Tal Mekel (Wichita State), Drew Houseman (Harvard) and Todd Golden (St. Mary's).

WHY MOST IMPROVED ON THE TEAM IN HIS FIRST YEAR?: After settling into the starting point guard role in his freshman year (2006-07), Derek Glasser became more than just a player who runs the show. In the final eight games, he averaged 9.1 points and then hit the game-winning three pointer with 13 seconds left at California on March 3 in the regular season finale. From beyond the three-point arc, he shot 18-of-69 (.261) in the first 21 games but got his stroke in the final nine games, shooting 16-of-32 (.500) beginning Feb. 3 as he made at least one three-ball in each of the final nine games. He led all Pac-10 freshmen in assist-to-turnover ratio in both Pac-10 games (61 assists to just 36 turnovers in 18 games for a 1.69 ratio, seventh-best in the loop) and overall games (97 assists and 59 turnovers for a 1.64 ratio in 30 games, also seventh-best). His 3.39 assists per game mark in Pac-10 and 3.23 mark overall were both tenth overall and second for freshmen.

LOOK AT THOSE MINUTES IN HIS FIRST YEAR: Three Sun Devil true freshmen combined to average 87.3 minutes in 2006-07, all above the 27-minute mark, and made 69 starts, led by Derek Glasser, who averaged 32.2 minutes in conference play. ASU will have three players on the team this year who averaged more than 32 minutes in their freshman season.
