Your courage will always be an inspiration. My sympathies to the Tillman family.
Peoria, Arizona
My family enjoyed watching Pat Tillman play football through the years at ASU.
We were and will always remain fans of him. Tonight at Mass we will offer our prayers for him and his family and light a votive candle in his honor. His death represents the courage and dedication that so many of our young men and women are giving to this country. My family is eternally grateful fot their sacrifices. Pat represented the best this country offers and his image as a role model will be forever imprinted on the American Soul.
God bless you Pat and your Family,

We were always impressed with Pat as we watched him play at Arizona State. We kept our eye on #42, and was assured to hear his name on nearly every defensive down. His decision to leave the NFL to fight for what he believed in exemplified his true character, strength, and courage. If each of us could have just a small portion of the drive, dedication, devotion, and commitment that Pat displayed in his life, we would all be better people. We will remember Pat's struggles and sacrifices each time we encounter a difficult situation, and will persevere in his memory.
Our thoughts are prayers go out to his family, wife, and friends. His memory will live on.

I was shocked and sad to hear of the death of Pat Tillman. I am A Nebraska Cornhusker at heart but ASU has always been my 2nd favorite team. I remember being in Sun Devil Stadium when the Devils beat the Huskers 19-0 in 1996. I was always impressed with Pat's Intensity on the football field. He was not the biggest or most talented but Pat proved you can do anything if you have the heart. He was proud to be an American and showed how much he loved his country. May God be with the Tillman family during this difficult time. It is great that you will retire his number 42. I would hope that for one year you could sell ASU #42 jerseys with his last name on it and with the American flag on a sleeve with some of the proceeds to go to the Tillman family. I know I would buy one and probably many others would too. This is a way to never forget Pat. I am still moved when they play that interview with Pat the day after 9-11 about serving your country. May God welcome Pat with open arms.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Tillman family.
I never knew Pat Tillman personally--yet, along with all the soldiers who have bravely served the nation, his sacrifice deeply touches my heart.
Thank you, Pat Tillman. I remember hearing a quote from you on your respect for those who have served. Well, I have "a great deal of respect" for you too.
Krystal Thomas (Glendale, AZ)
I've heard alot about Pat Tillman within the past couple days. It's so sad to hear of such a tragedy. He seems like such a great person who touched the lives of many. I can only imagine how hard this must be for his family and friends. My prayers go out to them for such a tremendous loss.

I, like most Americans am carrying a heart heavy with sadness and at the same time a heart that is about to burst with pride. I am torn between the loss of such an incredible human being and the pride in the conviction Pat showed to his flag and country. I served 25 years in the military and was blessed to be in the company of so many great Americans like Pat, the honor and character of these great men and women can only be realized when you become part of their military family. It is my hope that Americans can somehow realize how special our brother and sisters in the military are and when given a mission, failure is not an option. Pat will be rememberd as a Sun Devil who valued life and freedom more than most of us can ever know. To the parents of all those who have lost loved ones, our prayers are with you everyday, God bless you and I thank you for my freedom.

Pat: you will truely be missed by many, many people outside your family. You made such an impact on so many of us here in this country. Thank you for being a TRUE HERO. So many of us watched you grow while playing sports here in the Arizona desert. You would make any parent to have you as a son.
To the Tillman family: We all thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful son with America and expecially us here in Arizona. We will miss him a bunch. We also thank you, Kevin, for being there with him. Thank you to ALL soldiers for our freedom!!! Prayers are with you all.

I never use the word hero loosely or cheaply, my idea of hero is with the military or on the racetrack. Pat Tillman is a true American Hero,we like to say hero for our athletes and we buy everything they buy, but, I feel that if Pat Tillman decided to do what he wanted to do for our country, we should do what we want to do against all odds, and go ahead even if they are driving you up a wall, not cave in!

His actions define the word Brave. He is a tremendous inspiration for all of us. He gave up his career and his life to serve his Country. This is the ultimate sacrifice. His loss is so sad because there aren't any others like him.

What a true American Hero and one who believes in true patriotism. Pat will surely be missed by the ASU family. He is strong with God and love for the greater good of all humanity. God Bless his wife and family. We love you Pat!

This sad event brings the insanity of war so close to home. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and loved ones.

As a season ticket holder for ASU football since 1978 and a American History teacher, there are few athletes who I thought were intriguing off the field, Pat Tillman was the exception. As a teacher, a challenge I deal with on a day to day basis is trying to teach my students the value of life and how many people before us sacrificed so much, so we can debate the merits of what is important and not important in our society. I always felt the real heroes of our society were the veterans of World War II. Unfortunately, I am only 36 years old and don't know any veterans of that war. Fortunately for me, Pat Tillman will now be my hero and a face I can share with all my students.

Thank you for everything, Pat. People like you are what keep this country great.

When I heard the news on the radio, all could say was "Nooooo"!!!!! A good man, a good person, a good player will be missed! I just wished I could have known him personally! Please accept my deepest sympathy..........

He is, and was, a true inspiration to college/student athletes throughout the country. All of us who enjoyed his zeal and performance at ASU should have our thoughts and prayers directed to his family at this time. In adition to retiring the his jersey, I think it would be appropriate to have this honor prominently displayed in Sun Devil Stadium, as a perpetual reminder of his supreme sacrifice.

We pray for his family. Pat is a true role model. In this world of "me first", he is an inspiration. He will be sorely missed!!!

My heart is filled with a mixture of sadness and pride. As a mother, my heart is breaking for his mother but as an American, I could not be more proud. When I hear the term "American Hero" I will always think of Pat Tillman. God Bless you and your family.
