ASU Cheer: 2008-2009 Season

Competition:
Arizona State University has weighed many options and has decided they are not going
to participate in competition for the season.
It is felt that we need to represent our
teams on the field and on the court first. This will not be a negotiable item this year. We
look forward to the opportunity to building teams that will be ready to compete again at
some point, just not this year. If you are ready to represent ASU in a positive way on and
off the field/court, we encourage you to become part of our tradition. If you are looking
solely for a team who will compete, this is not ASU at this time.

Teams:
Arizona State University has for the past couple of years been one large team.
This year, ASU will have 2 fantastic teams representing the college.
There will be a Varsity team and a JV team.
Tryouts for Varsity will be in the Spring and tryouts for
the JV team will be in the Fall (August when school begins).
This will accommodate any out-of-town students or students transferring in from other
colleges. Each team will have 8 flyers and 8 bases (subject to change). Both JV and
Varsity will take the football field and represent the Sun Devils.
During Basketball season, our team will be split to accommodate cheering for both men's and women's basketball!
Both teams will practice together twice a week to prepare for upcoming events/games. All
promotions/charity events will be done as one team together.

Scholarships:
This past year, Arizona State Cheerleading was able to give the Varsity
team a "book" scholarship in the spring. This was designed to help buy
books for the second semester. It rewards their time and travel put
towards cheerleading all fall. We'd like to continue this tradition here
with holding great expectations for our Varsity team.

Practices:
Practices: Practices will be held twice a week this season. We will practice on
Monday and Wednesday evenings. Although this seems like a small amount of
time they are organized to get the most done. Team members are also
responsible for all game days as well as many promotions throughout the week.
Team members should expect to put about 15 hours a week into cheer.
